How IPTestor works
Know what a result measures before relying on it.
Public address detection
The server reads the address attached to your request through its configured reverse proxy. If that request fails, the browser can use ipify as a fallback. A VPN, gateway or proxy can affect which public address a website sees. This is not device identification.
For manual lookups, the input is validated and normalized before a database query. IPv4-mapped IPv6 inputs are normalized to IPv4. Private, local and reserved inputs handled by the validator are rejected. The version shown describes the normalized address; it does not test whether your connection supports both protocols.
Geolocation and ASN sources
The current release bundles DB-IP Lite City and ASN data for September 2026. Lookup data is served with the website, rather than fetched from a metered geolocation API for every visit. DB-IP data is attributed under its CC BY 4.0 license; application dependencies have their own licenses.
Coordinates and city names are estimates. ASN information describes a network organization and may not identify your retail provider. Missing fields remain unavailable. The site does not calculate residential/commercial classifications, VPN detection or abuse-risk scores.
DNS and registration
DNS queries go from our server to Cloudflare DNS over HTTPS. We preserve the response status, record types, values and TTL. The DNSSEC indicator reflects the returned AD flag; it is not a general security verdict. This is not a DNS leak or global propagation test.
IP registration uses the responsible registry’s RDAP service. If a registry request fails and RIPEstat can supply registration data, the response labels that fallback. RDAP fields describe registration objects, not the current user’s location or identity.
Updates and reproducibility
The displayed database month is the version actually bundled with the application. A new provider release is not automatically live here. Before changing it, we prepare the database, check representative IPv4 and IPv6 ranges, compare field availability, run functional checks and publish the matching source month. A failed update must leave the prior version intact.
Tests record the date, selected inputs, source version and limitations. Read our eight-check functional report and download its observations. We have not conducted a representative city-level accuracy study and do not publish an accuracy percentage.
Maps, privacy and corrections
Maps use OpenStreetMap tiles. Zooming changes the map view, not the accuracy of an IP estimate. The map is not based on GPS permission.
Read privacy and data handling before sending sensitive queries. To report an error, contact @ximi1688 on Telegram with the affected page, timestamp and reproducible steps. Do not include passwords, precise home locations or private account data.
