DNS record lookup

Look up the public DNS records for a domain.

Enter a domain and choose a record type.

This is a public DNS record lookup. It does not identify your browser’s DNS resolver or test for DNS leaks.

Understand your DNS answer

Look up public DNS records through Cloudflare DNS over HTTPS. This server-side lookup helps inspect a domain’s records; it does not discover your browser’s DNS resolver or test for a DNS leak.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter a domain without a protocol or path, such as example.com.
  2. Choose the record type and select Lookup DNS. Subdomains such as _dmarc.example.com can be used for TXT checks.
  3. Compare the status, returned record values and TTL. Open the raw response for the query timestamp.

What the fields mean

A / AAAA
IPv4 / IPv6 addresses returned for a name.
MX / NS
Mail exchangers / authoritative name servers.
TXT / CNAME
Text records / an alias to another name.
SOA / CAA
Zone administration / certificate-authority authorization.
TTL and DNSSEC validated
TTL is in seconds. DNSSEC reflects the upstream resolver’s AD flag; No alone does not prove that a domain is unsafe.

Common questions

Why are there no results?

An existing name can have no records of the selected type. OK with no answers differs from Domain does not exist.

Does this check DNS propagation everywhere?

No. It queries one resolver service. It is not a multi-location propagation test.

Does the Cloudflare label reveal my DNS provider?

No. Cloudflare is the resolver used by this tool’s server, not necessarily by your device.
